Energy and the Environment

Protecting our environment and building the foundation for a clean energy future are important pieces of the legacy we will hand down to our children. We cannot wait any longer to confront the real challenges we face – confronting the reality of climate change, preserving diminishing natural resources, and mitigating threats to our environment, including pollution and deforestation. We must:

  • Reduce our impact on the climate by continuing Massachusetts’ leadership in reducing greenhouse gas emissions, including the expansion of public transportation and ensuring that every home and business in the Commonwealth undergoes an energy audit within the next eight years.
  • Support the clean technology innovation that will make us more energy independent and help grow our economy. As part of this effort, Martha will double the funding for the Massachusetts Clean Energy Center.
  • Dedicate at least 1% of our state budget to environmental protection and preservation, so that agencies like the Department of Environmental Protection and the Department of Fish and Game have adequate resources to carry out their critically important missions.

  • Make state government a model property owner in terms of sustainability and energy efficiency, including exploring how we can make all new state buildings zero net energy.
