Massachusetts Nurses Association Endorses Martha
After casting a ballot in her local Medford elections on Tuesday, Martha was pleased to announce she had been endorsed by the Massachusetts Nurses Association. Founded in 1903, the Massachusetts Nurses Association is the largest union and professional association of registered nurses and health professionals in the state, and the third largest in the nation. The organization—which represents over 23,000 members—says Coakley will be a strong advocate for patients.
As Attorney General, Martha Coakley has worked to control health care costs for consumers by filing lawsuits against pharmaceutical companies and health insurers that drive up costs and by achieving record recoveries in Medicaid fraud cases. Coakley recently released a report entitled Health Care Reform: Strategies to Contain Costs, Improve Quality and Expand Coverage.
The endorsement came after Martha spent a day shadowing a home health care worker named Monica as part of the SEIU program “Walk a Day.” The program aims to give politicians a better understanding of the everyday challenges workers and their families face in America. Martha worked with Monica to care for Maureen, a consumer with MS.
